Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Navig8 ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and services.
2. Data Collection and Use
Account Information: We collect your email address when you register to synchronize your trips and settings across devices, as well as preferred settings: language, preferred yacht size and depth units.
Location Data: Navig8 uses your device's GPS location to show your position on the chart, plan routes and provide weather at your position. When you turn on logbook trip recording, the anchor alarm, "keep app running in background" or live crew sharing, Navig8 also collects your location in the background — even when the app is closed or not in use — for as long as that feature stays enabled. Your GPS position is processed on your device and is sent to our servers only when live crew sharing is enabled; your latest position is then stored and shown to the people you share it with, and is removed when you turn sharing off or delete your account. Trip recording locations are stored as part of your trip data (see Trip Data below).
Route and weather requests: to check a route against land and shallows, optimise it or fetch weather and tides, the app sends the coordinates of your route points (or of the point you ask about) to our servers. They are used only to answer that request and are not stored.
Anonymous usage statistics: to know which sea areas to develop, our servers count these requests per area of about 50 km (0.5° grid cell) and month, together with the platform (web, iOS, Android) and the plan type. These statistics are anonymous: they contain no e-mail, name, account or device identifier and no exact position — an identifier is replaced with a one-way hash before counting, and the hash cannot be turned back into who you are.
Error reports: crash and error reports are sent only if you turn on Error reporting in Settings (it is off until you do). They are collected through a trusted partner (sentry.io) and contain technical information about the error and your device; no screen recordings are made.
3. Google Account Sign-In and Use of Google User Data
When you choose to sign in with Google, our application requests access to your Google user data — specifically your email address and basic profile information (name and profile picture). This data is used solely for the purpose of authenticating your account and providing a personalised experience within Navig8.
We do not use your Google user data for any purposes other than providing and improving the features of Navig8.
Navig8's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Sharing: We do not sell, rent, or trade your Google user data to third parties. We only share it with third-party service providers to the extent strictly necessary to provide our service (e.g., hosting providers), and only if they agree to maintain confidentiality.
Retention: We retain your Google user data only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time via the Account settings in the app.
4. Data Sharing and Service Providers
We do not sell your personal data. To provide our core services, we work with professional service providers:
- Infrastructure: Supabase and Google Cloud for secure authentication and data storage; Resend to send account e-mails (e.g. confirmation, password reset) to your e-mail address.
- Weather, tides and AIS: Open-Meteo (weather) and Marea (tides) receive from our servers the coordinates needed for a forecast; Marinesia provides AIS vessel data for sea areas, without any information about you.
- Map data: OpenStreetMap / OpenSeaMap (base map, seamarks, marinas), EMODnet (depths, seabed types) and NOAA GFS (global weather) are data sources only — they receive nothing from you.
- Error reports: Sentry (sentry.io), only with your consent (see above).
- Anonymity: providers receive only the technical data needed to fulfil a request (e.g. coordinates for weather) and have no access to your account information.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
Account Deletion: You have the right to delete your account and all associated data at any time using the "Delete Account" button within the App's Account settings.
Trip Data: Recorded trips are stored securely until you choose to delete them and are not shared with anyone else.
6. Subscription and Payments
iOS Users: Payments for subscriptions within the iOS application are processed securely by Apple via the App Store. Navig8 does not store or have access to your credit card or billing information for these transactions. These subscriptions are governed by the Standard Apple Terms of Use (EULA). Subscriptions are annual and automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Web and Other Platforms: For subscriptions purchased via our website (https://navig8.pro) or other platforms, payments are processed securely by Stripe. In these cases, billing information is handled directly by the payment processor according to their privacy standards and Navig8 does not store or have access to your credit card or billing information for these transactions. These subscriptions are annual and automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
